One Church, 100 Uses works with congregations to maximise the use of their church buildings.
In 2005, the national United Reformed Church 'Catch the Vision' team requested that One Church, 100 Uses explore opportunities for the redevelopment of church buildings.
A study was commissioned by three Synods of the URC: Thames North, Mersey and Southern. In 2006, we conducted research on over 30 properties and focused on fully regenerating one - East Sheen in Southern - to demonstrate the principle and methodology of our work.
Following this pilot, One Church, 100 Uses CIC was set up as the national regeneration agency for the United Reformed Church. Although the shares of the company are owned by the URC, the agency has the flexibility to work across denominations and is developing an ecumenical portfolio.
One Church, 100 Uses anticipates working intensively with approximately 50 churches over the next five years to attract major funding and redevelopment for their buildings. We also expect to provide advice and consultancy to an estimated 30-60 additional churches, facilitating strategic entrepreneurial thinking.
